COSTS AND FEES

HMC is a non profit organisation and it’s objective is to serve the community. However, to operate such an enormous system without costs and overheads in nonsensical. Therefore fees are applied to the businesses wishing to be certified.

However, every effort is made to keep the fees as nominal as possible and is only to cover the cost of the operations of HMC. The plant would have to be assessed by HMC in terms of their amount of production, size of plant, number of Inspectors needed etc before finalising the charge.

Below is the general ruling on charging:

Abattoirs

Abattoirs are charged for the cost of the hours of the inspectors, travel expenses, equipment, and administration. Alternatively, a flat rate per item may also be applied which would be fully inclusive of inspectors wages, travel costs, administration, HMC equipments i.e. labels. etc.. However, the flat rate will be based on the amount of production at the plant. (e.g. 1p per chicken and 7p per lamb / sheep carcass at large plants).

Processing Plants

Processors are also only charged for the cost of the hours of the inspectors, travel expenses, equipment, and administration. In ratio of the total amount of production, the charge per item would be very nominal.

Butchers & Takeaways / Restaurants

As for the butchers and retailers, a monthly fee is applied to cover the cost of monitors, travel and equipment.

All Outlets :
Up to £30 per month (£1 daily)

Based upon our nominal fees charged to the Halal industry, the consumer will only be impacted by a few pence when purchasing HMC certified products. If the retailers/ suppliers charge more than this amount, then this is the ill practice of the retailer.
